Our Story

There is no factory, no warehouse and no team. There are two of us. One of us draws, the other prints, and both of us sand, pack and answer emails — sometimes at eleven at night, when a birthday is on Saturday and a name needs changing.

The name is not clever marketing. It is literally what this is: a corner where we make things that are supposed to make people laugh. "Hehe" is the noise; the corner is the place.

We started making toppers because we kept being asked to. Friends' birthdays, a cousin's wedding, somebody's fortieth. At some point the requests outgrew the favour, and we decided to do it properly.

We have been selling online since 2025. Every topper that has left this room was printed here, checked here and wrapped here by one of the two of us.

Because a cake topper is the one decoration at a party that everybody photographs.

Look at any birthday album. The balloons are cropped out, the bunting is out of frame, but there is always a photograph of the cake, lit up, with everyone's faces behind it. Whatever is on that cake ends up on somebody's phone, in somebody's group chat, and possibly on a shelf for years.

And yet most toppers are a piece of glitter card on a stick. It gets icing on it, it bends, and it goes in the bin with the paper plates before the guests have gone home.

We thought that was a shame. So we make the opposite: something solid, printed in three dimensions with real depth, that you lift off the cake, wipe with a cloth and keep. That is the whole idea — a decoration built to outlast the party rather than to be swept up with it.

Here is the annoyance that started the whole business.

You buy an ice fountain — one of those short, stubby indoor cake fountains from the supermarket. You want the big moment: lights off, cake glittering. And then you have to make it stand up. In icing. Which is soft. So it leans. Then somebody props it with a cocktail stick, and it leans the other way, and now there is a firework at forty-five degrees over a buttercream cake and everyone is being very cheerful about it.

So we designed a socket into the base of the topper: a moulded holder, shaped for a standard upright cake-fountain firework, that grips it and keeps it vertical and clear of the icing while it burns. The firework stands in the holder on its own base. It is not spiked into the cake, and it never should be.

To be completely clear, we do not sell fireworks and none is included. You buy the ice fountain yourself from a supermarket or party shop. What we sell is the thing that holds it properly — and it only ever works with the upright, stands-on-its-own-base type, never a thin handheld sparkler.

Once you have used one, going back to balancing a firework in a cake feels ridiculous. That is the problem the whole design exists to solve.

Nothing here is pre-made. When your order arrives, this is what happens.

• We open the design file for the topper you chose and type your name, age or date into it, reading it back against your order character for character. We copy exactly what you typed, capitals and all, because we cannot know whether an unusual spelling is a mistake or the whole joke.
• We slice the model: the software works out the path the printer's nozzle will take, layer by layer, and where the supports need to go.
• We load the filament colour you picked and print. Depending on the design and the length of the name, a topper takes anywhere from a couple of hours to most of a working day on the machine.
• We take it off the plate, snap off the supports, then sand and finish the edges by hand. This is the slow part, and it is the part that decides whether a topper looks handmade or looks homemade.
• We check the spelling one last time against your order, wrap it so that it survives a European postal network, and label it.

That whole sequence is why dispatch takes 1 to 3 working days rather than an afternoon. There is no shelf to take it off.

We print in PLA — a rigid plastic made from plant starch rather than petroleum. It is the standard material for consumer 3D printing, it holds fine detail well, and it comes in good solid colours.

Most designs are offered in ten filament colours, four of which are rainbow blends that shift colour as the print rises. A few designs are made in a single finish, because that is how the design works best — the product page always lists the colours available for that particular topper.

We are careful about how we describe it. PLA is plant-based, but 3D-printed surfaces have microscopic layer lines that can hold residue, so we do not call our toppers food safe and we would not want you to treat them as tableware. They sit on top of the icing, they come off before the cake is cut, and they are never used to store food.

And they are not edible. Not icing, not wafer, not fondant — solid plastic, to be lifted off and put aside before anyone gets a slice. Please tell whoever is cutting the cake, especially at a children's party.

In exchange for those two rules, you get something that does not wilt, does not bend and does not get thrown away. Wipe it, dry it, keep it.

Because we are the manufacturer as well as the shop, there is no long chain to trace if you ever need to reach whoever made your topper. It is us.

The warnings that go with them are short: not a toy, not edible, keep away from open flame except a standard upright cake fountain used in the moulded socket as intended, adult supervision whenever a firework is lit, and remove the topper before the cake is served.

If you ever have a safety concern about something we made, email us. We would want to hear it straight away.

We could have kept listing these somewhere else and let a marketplace handle the rest. We did not, because the things worth saying about these toppers do not fit in a listing.

The socket in the base needs explaining. Which fountains fit, and which absolutely do not, needs explaining. So does the fact that a personalised topper cannot come back simply because somebody changed their mind, and that the topper is not edible and comes off before the cake is cut.

So this is hehecorner.com: two people, two printers, one corner of a room in Spain, and enough space to write all of that down properly, in four languages, without an algorithm sitting in the middle of the conversation.

Saying no when the date is too tight. We ship from Spain and we will not pretend otherwise. If your party is on Friday and you are in the UK, we would rather tell you it will not make it than take your money and hope.

Printing exactly what you typed. Not our idea of what you meant. If we think something will not fit or will look wrong, we email you before we print — never after.

Fixing our own mistakes without a fight. If we misspell something, or a topper arrives broken, we remake it or refund it. We do not ask people to post broken things back at their own cost, and "it was personalised" has never been an excuse for us to duck out of that.

Not pretending to be bigger than we are. There is no call centre. There is one inbox, and one of us reads it, usually within a day, Monday to Friday.

Not making claims we cannot stand behind. We do not quote statistics we have not counted, we do not run down anybody else's products, and we do not tell you what "most customers" think. What is on these pages is what we can show you.

Making things that survive the party. If a topper ends up on a shelf a year later, next to a photograph of a cake with a firework on top of it, then we did the job.
