Details

A soft-eared bunny sits leaning against a big number, and underneath, in raised capitals, is her name. It is designed around a 1st or 2nd birthday, with the number as the hero and the bunny as the cuddle, and it photographs beautifully on the pale cakes those parties tend to involve.

This one is printed in more than one tone: the bunny comes out in a soft contrast against the number and the lettering, with the inner ears and paw pads picked out separately. That takes noticeably longer on the printer than our single-tone toppers, which is why it costs a little more. There is nothing to choose, because it arrives exactly as shown.

Type the name and the age as you want them, for example Sofia 1 or SOFIA 1, and they are printed precisely that way, capitals and all. Personalisation is free. The width is about 15 cm (6 in), and a longer name makes it slightly taller.

Set into the base is a socket for a standard upright cake fountain, the ice fountain sold in supermarkets. It will also hold a slim, tall candle of a similar diameter, which is what a lot of parents use for a first birthday.

  • The fountain is not included and we do not sell them.
  • If you do use one, remember it is a firework. An adult lights it and stays with it, following the instructions on the packet. Upright cake fountains only, never thin handheld sparklers, and keep little ones well back.

It is 3D printed to order in PLA, a rigid plant-based plastic, in our studio in Spain. It is not edible, so lift it off before the cake is cut, then wipe it and keep it. A first birthday cake lasts an afternoon; this ends up on the nursery shelf.

The ears lean against the number rather than standing straight up, which stops the whole thing looking stiff and symmetrical in the middle of a round cake.

Questions about this topper

Is this suitable for a 1st birthday cake?

It is designed for exactly that. The age number is the largest element and the name sits below it in solid capitals, so it reads clearly in photographs. Many parents skip the fountain at a first birthday and stand a slim tall candle in the socket instead, which fits the same opening.

Does the socket come with a fountain in it?

No. The topper includes the holder, not the fountain. Standard upright cake fountains are sold as ice fountains in UK supermarkets and party shops. Only that upright cone or cylinder type should go in the socket, never a thin handheld sparkler, and never anywhere near a small child's reach.

Are cake fountains safe around babies and toddlers?

Only with real care. An adult should light it, stay beside it and follow the instructions on the packet, with children kept well back and away from the smoke. Plenty of parents decide a candle is enough at this age and use the socket for that instead. Never leave a lit fountain unattended.

Can I use a candle in the socket instead of a fountain?

Yes, and a lot of parents do at a first birthday. The socket takes a slim, tall candle of roughly the same diameter as a cake fountain. It is a snug fit rather than a fixing, so stand the cake somewhere level and keep an eye on it as you would with any lit candle.

What happens if I type the name wrong?

We print the name and number exactly as you type them into the personalisation box, including capitals and any accents. We do not correct or reformat anything, so read it back once before ordering. Personalised items cannot be returned unless faulty, and a misspelling we copied is not a fault.

We need it for Saturday week - is that enough time?

For the UK it is tight but usually fine. Each topper is made to order and dispatched from Spain in 1-3 working days, then tracked UK delivery takes 4-7 working days at EUR 8.95, the EU 3-6 at EUR 6.95 and Spain 2-4 at EUR 3.95. Two weeks is the comfortable answer.
