Cake Toppers with a Built-In Sparkler Holder
A cake topper with a sparkler holder is a decoration with a socket moulded into its base, sized to grip a standard upright cake fountain — the short, fat indoor sparkler sold in supermarkets as an ice fountain. Every design here has one. You slot the fountain in, light it at the table, and the topper holds it upright while it burns, so nobody is holding a firework over a cake. The sparkler itself is not included and we do not sell it. What you buy is the topper: 3D printed to order in our studio in Spain, roughly 15 cm wide, personalised free on most designs, and lifted off and kept long after the cake has gone.

What is a cake topper with a sparkler holder?
It is the part that has always been missing from the sparkler-on-a-cake moment. Ice fountains are sold loose, so most people wedge one into the icing, jam it into a plastic tube pushed through the sponge, or hold it by hand. Our toppers replace all of that with a printed collar in the base of the design that takes the fountain's own tube and keeps it vertical.
The rest of the topper is the decoration — a unicorn, a dragon, a golfer, Mr & Mrs, a name and an age. It does the job a card topper does, and then it does the job a sparkler holder does. When the fountain has burnt out you lift the whole thing off in one piece and the cake gets cut clean.
Which sparklers fit, and which ones definitely don't
- Yes: standard upright cake fountains, sold as ice fountains, cake fountains or fountain candles — the stubby ones with a rigid tube base that stand on their own.
- No: thin handheld wire sparklers. Wrong shape for the socket, wrong behaviour over a cake, and never what these toppers were designed for.
- No: numeral sparklers, sparkler letters and anything mounted on a wire frame.
Ice fountains sit in the birthday-candle aisle of most UK supermarkets and in every party shop, usually a few pounds for a pack. Buy them separately, check the packet says indoor use, and check the tube is the ordinary rigid sort rather than a novelty shape.
Lighting it safely at the table
- Push the fountain all the way down into the socket so it cannot tip.
- Light it in clear air: no low ceilings, no bunting, balloons or paper lanterns overhead, no curtains within reach.
- An adult lights it and everyone else stays back. Never carry the cake while it is lit.
- Let it burn out completely, then wait a moment — the spent tube is hot — before lifting the topper off.
- Follow the instructions on the fountain's own packaging. That is the item with the safety rating; the topper is only the stand.
The topper is not edible and is not food safe. It rests on the icing and comes off before anyone cuts. If the buttercream is soft, sit the base on a small disc of baking paper so it lifts away cleanly.
Why the sparkler isn't included
Indoor fireworks are classified goods with their own storage, packaging and carriage rules, and posting them across the EU and UK is a completely different business from posting a printed decoration. We are two people with 3D printers, so we make the part nobody else makes and leave the pyrotechnics to shops licensed for it. It also keeps your delivery simple: a topper is just a parcel.
You can use every design here with no fountain at all, and plenty of people do — especially for children's parties and for venues with a no-naked-flame rule. Unlit, it is still a solid, personalised, three-dimensional object that outlasts the cake by about a decade.
Frequently asked questions
Is the sparkler included with the cake topper?
No. The holder is built into the base, but the ice fountain itself is sold separately and we do not stock it. Any standard upright cake fountain from a supermarket or party shop will drop into the socket. Buying it locally also means it arrives fresh and you are not paying to post a firework.
What size sparkler fits the holder?
The socket is made for a standard upright cake fountain — the stubby ice-fountain type with a rigid tube base that stands unaided, usually sold in packs in the candle aisle. Thin handheld wire sparklers, numeral sparklers and anything on a wire frame will not sit in it and should not be used with these toppers.
Can you light an ice fountain indoors?
Indoor cake fountains are made for exactly that, but read the packet, because the fountain's own instructions are the ones that count. Give it clear air above, keep bunting, balloons and low ceilings out of range, have an adult light it, and let it burn out fully before anyone goes near the cake.
Is the cake topper edible?
No. It is 3D-printed plastic, not sugar or wafer, and it is not food safe. It rests on the surface of the cake and is lifted off before cutting. If your icing is very soft, set it on a small disc of baking paper or a thin cake board so the base stays clean and lifts away easily.
Can I use the topper again?
Yes, and that is rather the point. Wipe the base, keep it in a drawer, and it comes out for the next birthday or stands on a shelf. Designs personalised with an age belong to that particular year, but everything undated goes again, which no card topper manages twice.
