Nothing to fill in, nothing to spell: it says the one thing every birthday cake needs to say, which makes it right for a first birthday, a fourth, a ninetieth and everything in between.
Behind the bear, moulded into the base, sits a socket. It takes a standard upright cake fountain — the cone or cylinder sold as an ice fountain, the sort that throws its sparks straight up — and holds it steady while it burns, so it cannot lean over or sink into the buttercream.
- The fountain is not included and we do not sell fireworks; party shops and firework shops stock them.
- Only that upright type belongs in the socket, never a thin handheld sparkler. An adult lights it, follows the instructions on the packaging, keeps children well back and stays with it until it is out and cool.
Because there is no name and no number on it, this is the teddy topper that comes back out of the drawer. Wipe it down once the cake is cut and it stands on next year's, and the year after that. That is the practical difference between it and our personalised teddy, where the bear leans on a big age number with the name along the base: that one is a keepsake for one particular birthday, this one is for all of them.
Each topper is 3D printed to order in PLA, a rigid plant-based plastic, in our studio in Spain. It arrives exactly as photographed — brown bear, black plaque, white lettering — so there is nothing to choose. It is about 15 cm (6 in) wide on a flat base bar, which sits on a cake from roughly 18 cm across without overhanging, or stands on the party table beside a smaller one.
It is not edible, so it lifts off before the first slice. The lettering is white on a closed black silhouette, and that is what keeps it readable in the photograph somebody takes from the far end of the table while the candles are still going.
Questions about this topper
Is the ice fountain included?
No. You get the topper with the holder built into the base, and nothing else — we do not sell or ship fireworks. Buy a standard upright cake fountain, sold in party shops as an ice fountain, and drop it into the socket behind the bear. Thin handheld sparklers are the wrong shape for it. An adult lights it, follows the instructions on the packaging, keeps children back and stays with it until it is out.
Can I have a name or an age printed on it?
Not on this one. It is deliberately plain: the bear, the words HAPPY BIRTHDAY and nothing else, which is what lets you use it again every year. If you want the child's name and the age on the cake, our personalised teddy bear topper carries both — same bear, leaning on a big number, with the name along the base bar.
Will it fit my cake?
It is about 15 cm (6 in) wide, so it sits on a cake from roughly 18 cm across without hanging over the edge. On a smaller cake it overhangs a little, which does no harm, or you can stand it on the table next to the cake — the base bar is flat and wide enough to hold it upright on its own.
Can I use it more than once?
Yes, and that is rather the point of a topper with no name on it. PLA is a rigid plastic: lift the topper off before the cake is cut, wipe it clean, and put it away. It comes out again next year, and it travels well between families — several of ours have done the rounds of a whole street of birthdays.
